Police docks man over alleged fraud

The Police on Wednesday docked a 36-year-old man, Lateef Afolabi, at a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly obtaining money by false pretense.

Afolabi is facing a three-count charge of stealing,  obtaining by false pretense and breach of public peace.

The Prosecutor, ASP Akpan Ikem, told the court that Afolabi conspired with others, now at large, to commit the offences on Oct. 6 around 2.00 p.m. at Badagry Roundabout.

Ikem said that the defendant obtained N86, 000 from one Mrs Victoria Adeona on the pretence that he would supply her 30 bags of rice valued at N414,000.

He said that the accused also caused a breach of the peace by instigating members of the public against the complainant when she demanded for her money or the items.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 409, 311 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Aka Bashorun, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned hearing in the case until Dec. 17.
